Funny Speeches
Speeches are mostly called for during formal events by the people who hold some kind of authority in their diverse divisions. They are generally and mostly boring to onlookers except of course the iconic MLK speech and several others after that. Nevertheless, speeches are an outlet for one to have a voice which is why they’re usually a snooze fest – yes, we’ve slept through a principal’s speech too. Speeches are not meant to be a source of entertainment which is why the entertainment section is usually separate in every itinerary. But the question here is, what if they were?
Humor, on the other hand, is one of the oldest methods people use to convey difficult messages. Lacing difficult thoughts or news in humor makes them seem less devastating as it can tend to ease the pain for the receiver as well. Humor based tv shows are a go-to for people experiencing rough days and other types of sadness. It's already a remedy which we already infuse in almost everything, even our water, so why shouldn’t we put them in our speeches too.
What makes a speech interesting?
Speeches could be more interesting if the speaker wishes it. Puns, jabs, and jokes and so on could be included in speeches for more entertainment. This will keep the audience gripped and glued to your voice as you take them down to lyrical ecstasy. It's a great way to keep your audience interested during 6hour workshop training or symposiums that don’t seem to have an end. Infusing humor and its elements into a speech would make it a funny speech without giving the speaker the reputation of a comedian because after all, you’re trying to pass an important message along.
Elements of funny speeches
Looking back at past popular speeches that rocked the world, there have been visible sarcasm, hyperboles, and other figures of speech including humor in them. It is what gives the speech the much-needed pizzazz to lure the listeners in and keep their attention locked in till finish. Without these elements, speeches would just be a bunch of words that don’t arouse any kind of reaction apart from snores. Now, there are several approaches one could take when writing a funny speech. One could choose to employ either nine of the laughter triggers as pointers on what could be funny or just rewrite some common jokes. This could work because it’s a speech and not a comedic script.
Now, one has to be cautious with funny speeches because they could go as far as inciting a rebellion if the jokes aren’t taken lightly by certain groups. Hence, the speechwriter holds the power to either unite a nation or trigger a war, based on the context of course. As a safety measure, before presenting your funny speech do practice in front of a few people not just to boost your confidence but equally to get their takes and reactions. This can be very beneficial to any office you serve.
